Press release

The St George’s Players are staging Leonard Caddy’s adaptation of the well known Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson this 26-28 October. Set at the end of the 19th century in all its gothic glory, performances are at St George’s church, Vancouver Road, SE23 2AG.

In a first for the 83 year old group, performances will be preceded by a short play written and directed by one of the Players. Teresa Espejo is a member of the St George’s Players playwriting group, members of which meet every few months to read and discuss their writing.

Stephen Gaskell, chair of the committee and director of Jekyll and Hyde, said: “Not only are we excited to be producing another dark and stormy play for Hallowe’en, we’re very happy to be bringing Teresa’s short to the stage.

“The playwriting group is relatively new, and we had no idea how it would go. But the membership has grown steadily and the quality of their writing improved immensely. They jumped at the chance to write something for us to perform, and produced loads of great ideas. But they decided Teresa’s was the one, and she’s now having a great time directing for the first time.”

Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 7.45pm. Tickets are £10 each including a programme. Refreshments will be available, and there will be a raffle of prizes donated by our generous sponsors.
